Veterans Day Events Near Lake Wales, FL: Ways to Honor Our Veterans

By Michelle Chandler ·

Veterans Day in Lake Wales is personal for me. As a US Air Force veteran and the founder of The MC Collective at Future Home Realty, I have spent more than 25 years helping families put down roots in the same ridge-country community that rallies around its service members every November. There is something special about the way this town honors its own: the flags along the downtown streets, the ceremonies at the memorial, the neighbors who stand together on a weekday morning to say thank you. That is the Lake Wales I love, and the one I am proud to help people call home. Whether you are a veteran, a military family, or simply looking for a meaningful way to spend the day, here are the verified Veterans Day events around Lake Wales, FL for 2026.

Veterans Day in Lake Wales: Wednesday, November 11

Lake Wales Veterans Day Ceremony at Veterans Memorial Park

The anchor of the day is the Lake Wales Veterans Day Ceremony, set for Wednesday, November 11, at 11 a.m. at Veterans Memorial Park. Organized as a city ceremony honoring Lake Wales veterans, it typically features speakers, a wreath-laying, and a rifle salute, and it is free and open to the public. The park sits at the heart of the city's remembrance and is home to the memorial that carries the names of local veterans through the city's Bricks of Honor program. See the event listing and the City of Lake Wales Veterans Memorial page for the day's program.

The Veterans Day Parade along Central Avenue

Lake Wales also has a long tradition of a Veterans Day Parade along historic Central Avenue, with the route running from Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard to Lake Shore Boulevard and typically stepping off around 11 a.m. In past years the parade has filled downtown with marching bands, first responders, and veterans themselves. The 2026 lineup had not been formally confirmed on the city's calendar at the time of writing, so check the City of Lake Wales calendar closer to the date to confirm this year's route and start time.

Honoring veterans across Polk County

Winter Haven Honors: a new Veterans Day celebration

On Saturday, November 14, from 10 a.m. to noon, the City of Winter Haven hosts Winter Haven Honors, a new community tradition at Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Park on Lake Silver (275 S Lake Silver Dr NW, Winter Haven, FL 33881). The city describes it as a Veterans Day celebration bringing communities from across Polk County together to recognize the men and women who have served, under the tagline "A Day to Honor. A Community United. Forever Grateful." Winter Haven is about a 25-minute drive from Lake Wales, the event is open to the public, and the full program is still being announced. See the Daily Ridge announcement for updates.

Auburndale and Lake Alfred joint Veterans Day Ceremony

Just west of Lake Wales, the cities of Auburndale and Lake Alfred hold an annual joint Veterans Day Ceremony at 11 a.m., alternating between Auburndale's Veterans Memorial Garden (208 W Lake Ave) and Lake Alfred's Frank C. Gardner Park along US 17/92. In 2025 the ceremony was hosted at Frank C. Gardner Park, and the 2026 edition is being scheduled, so confirm the location and details with the City of Auburndale or the City of Lake Alfred as the date nears. The ceremony is free and open to the public.

Haines City Veterans Day Ceremony at Railroad Park

In Haines City, the annual Veterans Day Ceremony takes place at Railroad Park (502 E. Main St.) in the heart of downtown, a free 9 a.m. gathering honoring those who served. See the Baselocal events calendar for the day's details.

Lakeland: Polk County Veterans Council ceremony and parade

Lakeland is home to a countywide Veterans Day observance presented by the Polk County Veterans Council. The ceremony takes place at Veterans Memorial Park (701 W. Lime St.), followed by the Veterans Day Parade stepping off from the RP Funding Center at 11 a.m., traveling along Lemon Street into downtown Lakeland and ending at Munn Park. In recent years the city has held the observance on the Saturday before or around Veterans Day (November 8 in 2025), and the 2026 date was still being confirmed at the time of writing, so check the Polk County Veterans Council events page for this year's schedule and details.
