Halloween in Lake Wales is my favorite proof that this town knows how to gather. The live oaks along the ridge get strung with lights, the historic downtown fills with costumed families, and the resort communities up and down the road turn October into one long, friendly celebration. I have worked this ridge country for more than 25 years, and every October I am reminded why I love helping people put down roots here: neighbors who barely know each other in June are handing out candy together by Halloween. Whether you are visiting for the season or already calling Lake Wales home, here are the verified Halloween events around Lake Wales, FL for 2026, so you can plan a spooky season full of the very best of our area.
The big night: downtown Lake Wales
Halloween Spooktacular Bash
Downtown Lake Wales closes out October with the family-friendly Halloween Spooktacular Bash, set for Friday, October 30, from 5 to 9 p.m. at Downtown Market Plaza (20 N. Market Place). The free event features a Trick-or-Treat Trail through the historic district, a costume contest, character meet and greets, games, music, displays, food, and vendors in a costumed, walkable downtown. It is organized by Lake Wales Main Street and is listed on the City of Lake Wales calendar. See the Lake Wales Main Street events page and the City of Lake Wales calendar for the final lineup.
Halloween day at Bok Tower Gardens
Boo-tanical Bash
On Halloween day itself, Saturday, October 31, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Bok Tower Gardens (1151 Tower Blvd.) hosts the Boo-tanical Bash, a family-friendly, not-so-scary day of fall fun across the gardens. Admission is free for members and is included in regular garden admission: $25 for adults, $12 for ages 6 to 17, and free for children 5 and under, with no registration required. Expect a Monster Mash DJ Dance Party, pumpkin painting, festive tattoos, photo ops, a special Kids Carillon Concert, and two performances by Asolo Repertory Theatre of "Beanstalk: The Adventures of Jack and the Giant." See the Boo-tanical Bash event page for details.
Spooky nights at the ranch
The Haunting of River Ranch
About 30 to 40 minutes south, Westgate River Ranch Resort and Rodeo (3200 River Ranch Blvd., River Ranch, FL 33867) runs The Haunting of River Ranch on Friday and Saturday nights from October 2 through 31, plus Friday, November 6 (with Saturday, November 7 expected as the final night), from 7 to 10 p.m. Expect the haunted stables experience, a haunted hayride, scare zones, the KICCO Playground, and Halloween-themed food and drinks. General admission runs about $10 for the public and resort guests, with the haunted hayride ticketed separately from about $18, and Westgate owners often receive a discounted rate. This is a thrill-seeking night out, so it suits older kids and adults best. On Saturday, October 31, the resort pairs the scares with its special Halloween Rodeo, so you can take in the rodeo and then brave the haunt in one night.
